Question for those using touch probe on mill

I picked up one of the cheapie AliExpress touch probes to use with my touchdro

I set it in my drill chuck and aligned the probe, and marked chuck/probe rotational positioning.
I removed probe, reinstalled probe, repositioned marks and checked for repeatability-- no bueno.

So I figured the best bet is to place the probe in a dedicated holder such as collet chuck with dedicated collet or dedicated end mill holder
My mill spindle runout is maybe .0002

I installed it in a er40 collet chuck, aligned probe, and removed chuck/collet/probe assembly. reinstalled chuck, and it was right on the money.
My spindle is nmtb40.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Dan

A drill chuck is not an accurate tool holder and may be the source of your problems. Sounds like you are on the right track with the er 40 collet.
