Power hack saw

pjf134, I'm about to start on the overarm mechanism for the saw that I'm building since 2010. I guess I'm about 70% into the project.

Recently I've also been thinking of building a poor man's shaper based upon a power hacksaw mechanism.

Dalee, you're right - the demands on the gear train is going to be enormous. I saw one guy using an automobile flywheel and starter motor gear on his power hacksaw which may be the answer.

Been focusing more on how to make a lift and x-y table.

Any case, pjf134 please keep me in the loop with your hacksaw build and any ideas you may have for building a shaper.

GK1918, all I can say is, I'm envious. And I mean that in a very good way.

fluxcored,
I ran out of material to use for the hack saw, so I went to plan "B" which was a fly cutter for my mill to cut gears, small ones at first. I do have some old plans from a old mag and I will include them for the manual shaper and power hack saw. Since I had a gear box for speed reducing the plans changed a little to use it for the hack saw. The fly cutter is almost done, just need a set screw and shape the cutter for gear tooth profile.
