Do these lathes come with locks to keep things tight when machining in one axis or for tightening a collet chuck?

The tailstock has locks for both the body and the quill. I'd love to be able to lock the cross-slide when turning down the diameter of a part...

If they don't have them, would it be bad to add them? If I can add them, where would be the best placement?

Very few lathes come with cross slide locks, the only one that I have seen was on a big heavy Axelson, the only instance that I have observed when a lock would have been of use is on heavy interruped cuts where the cross slid does a lot of movement in and out. Carriage locks are pretty near universal.

As for spindle locks for collet tightening, I have not seen suchlike, on a gearhead lathe one usually just engaged a lower speed gear, on a belt pulley lathe, one usually just engages the back gear without disengaging the bull gear lock pin.

Ooops, wrong lathe.
