Parting brass bushings

I had a similar problem with a part that I make. I start with 8mm round stock that must reduced to .202" for exactly .400". After much thought I came up with this "Poor Man'" DRO which I can quickly attach to the lathe when needed.

I started with an Igaging depth gauge. I made a mount that would allow me to swing the gauge out of the way when I needed to back the carriage away from the chuck. In order to ensure repeatability I used a precision ball bearing from a scrapped hard drive as the pivot. Hopefully the pictures will be self explanatory.

For cutting the bushings you would need to just touch the end of the stock, back off and advance the carriage the length required PLUS the width of the parting blade.
