Parallel

What does one do with parallels? Setup, grinding, measuring and milling, steel tools of that cross section and length will be difficult to keep straight even after hardening and grinding

If you have a need for such a thing buy a set, if you collect tools just to have them buy another, one to use and one to keep in the box.

Buy a Starrett set to keep in the box which is always more impressive.

I've been machining over 30 years and never had a need for a monster like that.

If that's intended to be used as a parallel that's one heck of a parallel. Granite parallels aren't normally used for setup in machining. They are used for inspection work. You'll need a big surface plate & would be inspecting large parts with one of those.
