So I've been cleaning the Excello . I've got the drum switch so that the outside is recognizable. Inside has oil and small chips pretty much through-out.
On the outside I've been using WD-40 and #2 Diesel, scrub, scrape, wire brush, rub, rub, rub, etc.
I have spray auto-brake cleaner, starting fluid (either) and spray carb cleaner on the shelf. Are any of these safe to use inside against the bake-a-lite and contacts etc inside the drum switch or what should I be using ???
Suggestions ?
Thanks Jim

Bakelite is fairly impervious to any of the common organic solvents.

If it were my switch, I would wash with WD40 to loosen any hardened deposits. Once I had the surfaces cleaned, I would rinse with acetone to remove the WD40 residue and wipe dry. A contact lubricant is an option but shouldn't be necessary.

I like to use white gas (naphtha, Coleman fuel) it cuts grease and oil like paint thinner but evaporates a bit faster
Not too many fumes, mild and easy on paint and rubber, wiring, etc.

Wow, thanks for all the responses ! I've been too involved with Dr's and hospitals this week but maybe I'll get back to this over the weekend.
Thanks again guys,
Jim
