This loud sound like a spring being twitched has started on my computer. What is it,and what do I do about it?????

It's the chatroom notifier. You can turn it off, I believe. I normally have my sound muted anyway, so I never hear it.

Go to Settings|General Settings|Chatbox Options|General Options|Disable notification sounds


Select "Yes"

I think I got that right. It's in there somewhere.

But,WHAT is it notifying me of??? I have not participated in any chat room activity.

It notifies you of any chat activity. When someone is using the chatbox, and you hear it, it means they just entered some text.
