Huh, who woulda thought it. Great idea. Welcome Turbo, Already with the good ideas. That's what makes this place so nice. Again welcome and throw out some more great ideas.

Using the skillet the way the OP has said, just have to be aware of uneven heating of parts, obviously it worked ok with his pistons, but with some parts it might be an idea to have them suspended so they are not in direct contact with the pan, so they heat more uniformly.
For any that don't know, you can also buy temperature crayons with change colour once the temp gets to the temp required.
