Need Help On This

Hey Bluewv1,

I found that other mill that I was thinking of.

It was a Burke. Here's the link:
http://www.hobby-machinist.com/threads/restoring-a-burke-1-horizontal.37722/#post-322600

The similarities:
-the mount points for the countershaft
-the web between the original horizontal spindle and the overarm

the differences:
-the outline of the knee; yours is rounded that Burke is angled
-the bottom of the z-axis screw;

That gap in the original horizontal spindle tube would be where a segmented pinion went to engage a rack for moving the head up/down (just like mine!).

I also finally found some photos of my old Bristol. I will start a new thread for it and post a link here.

UPDATE --- There is not a heck of a lot of info yet but the lady that is in charge of the archives said she would copy whatever they have and call me to come and get it.

Yes that's very likely. As I stated above the base is from an old horizontal mill. The big y-shaped yolk used to support either the bearings for the counter shaft, or the motor itself. The vertical head was likely added later.
