Thanks for the kind words! Mine did not come with a taper attachment, but I have my eyes peeled for one. There is one on Ebay right now but the $1250 pricetag is more than I am willing to spend. On the cross slide, the shaft and nut are tight, but the hand-wheel moves about .050" in and out on it's own. A bearing would make sense, I can't tighten the nuts anymore but the parts diagram doesn't show a bearing. It must just ride on a bushing or be a tight finish.
