I see no reason NOT to make your own black powder. As long as proper safety precautions are followed, the amount is relatively small, and a person has a good grasp of what he is doing. It's always "dangerous" working with explosives but it's also "dangerous" working with grinders, mills, lathes, heavy equipment, etc.

Now you tell me! When I was a kid, that was our main source of powder for blowing stuff up....

Just NEVER bust open a shotgun shell or other modern bullet. You probably already know that,but it is surprising how many accidents are caused by people putting scavenged smokeless powder into old or other black powder guns.
