Hello,

I have a mid 1940s Sheldon lathe UL-56P (SN TLWQU10452), that I’m starting a restoration on. Along the way the motor was swapped out for a 110 motor, and it now only runs in the forward direction. I want to replace the motor with a 3 phase motor and VFD.

Does anyone know the original specs on the Sheldon, specifically HP, RPMs, shaft dimensions?

Any help appreciated.

There may be some sales brochures that cover the size of your motor on the Sheldon website I linked in another post. Many of these machines came with several different choices. My 1960 MW-56P came with a 2 hp 3 phase motor. Some of the older models came standard with a 1 hp 1725 rpm 3 phase motor. They offered a HD 1.5 hp motor.

Thank you I will look more closely at the sales brochures for the info.

I also joined the sheldonlathe2 group and tried to Look for info & post there, but I'm not sure that it worked. I haven't figured hot the interface yet.

Thank you I think I identified the lathe UL-56P and the specs
