This method produces a practical and meaningful dimension bearing in mind that measurements as the 1.697 in Bob's drawing and the resultant width of the opening can only be considered as theoretical or reference dimensions.

There is a caution in that the base surface must be flat. If it is not, both the angle and base width measurement will be incorrect.
