Greetings to all;

This is not really an Atlas issue, but I will (hopefully) be creating the taper needed on the lathe.

I've got an automotive project going that requires replacing the steering shaft. The lower end of the 3/4" O.D. shaft will be pinned with a roll pin to a cupped receiver that's tapered on the inside, about 1 1/2" long.

What is the best or most straightforward procedure to replicate the internal taper of the cupped receiver onto the shaft end?

As always, thanks in advance!

Lou O.

Here is a helpful calculator: http://www.magafor.com/841/uk.htm
With a large and small ball bearing and a depth mic the angle can be calculated.
Then a sine plate sideways to set the compound angle on the lathe.
Or maybe someone on here will chim in and know the taper you're dealing with.

Do you have the make and part number for the coupling?
