magnetic chucks

And now you know why I bought a bunch of cheap ones and fixed them up. About 7-8 all total. Some I got for scrap price; most expensive one was from eBay for 125. The three I kept are mine forever the others got sold for a few hundred each.

In your shoes, I'd take it apart first, look at the underside and make sure you're not grinding into any pins, bolts etc... They're a snap to take apart and reassemble and it will be a good shot to fresh-up that oil in there. Use heavy non-detergent oil.

Wish I could, but at this time buying a chuck is not an option. I think I will try milling the 6x18 chuck that I have on the ends just below the surface so the grinding wheel centerline is off the chuck face at each end of travel.

I checked on a 10x16 chuck once and it was over $2300. That's $2100 more than I paid for the grinder :D
