I am buying lathe machine. I received many nice machines Acer. Lux-Matter and Sharp all Taiwan made. All I see 3 phases machines so far. I need a single-phase machine though.
 
You can use a rotary phase converter or a VFD to power a 3-phase machine from a single phase supply
VFDs in particular have gotten very affordable now
A static phase converter is another low cost option- you lose 1/3 the horsepower however
3-phase machines give better surface finish and allow for variable speed operation with VFDs
