What do you prefer for lubricating the carriage feed gearbox and the ball oilers on the PM1340?

Thanks

Howard

ISO 68 for the carriage gearbox, Vactra #2 way oil for the ball oilers. I use the Mobil Gear Oil DTE Heavy Medium or ISO68 circulating hydraulic oil in the gearbox. The Mobil Vactra #2 Way oil in the oilers.

Also be aware that it is very difficult to get all the gears/bearings lubricated in the Norton gearbox from the side oil port. So you may want to consider some additional oiling from below, or putting in a pump oiler system with a manifold distribution.

This is an example of what can happen:

Howard, I decided to use Vacuoline 1409 for the way oil based on lots of research and discussions online. It's stickier and less prone to run off than the current Vactra #2. I bought it from BRW Technologies as outlined in the following post:

I agree with Mark about the Norton gearbox lube port - you've already seen my solution to this in private emails - which is a derivative of the Bijur system Mark did on his 1340.
