Hello all. I am in the market to buy a lathe in Houston Texas. I am not looking for anything huge as I don't have much space. I have roughly $2000 to spend and would like to see what I can get used before I decide to go with a new import model.

I don't have anything extra, but good luck. Pickings tend to be pretty slim around here, but you never know. And if you do turn up a vintage US built machine, it might involve some work but it will likely outlast you. There are many around still going strong that are older than I am (71).
 
I'd suggest that you hit craigslist at least twice a day and be ready to pounce with cash in hand. Run both Houston and Galveston to cover the area. There is a large Monarch on there now, but it's way larger than you want, and there is a LeBlond Servo Shift that has been on there for a month now.
 
Thank you for the replies. I have been searching ebay and criegslist but thought I would ask incase someone had something not listed. All great advise though.
