Hi guys, I ordered the pm940m and wanted to ask if anyone has any instructions or know how to properly check/install the pm940m.
the machine should arrive sometime late October, but I am trying to do some homework sooner.

thank all,

Tim

This may help you check tram and alignment:

I've also attached a document that covers some aspects of how to tram a square column benchtop mill.

If you don't already have the tools to check alignment, the attached is my curated list of recommendations. These are quality tools that will stand the test of time and are attractively priced given the quality.

Sorry for the late reply. i read the list and it’s a >1000$ and very good one, its showed me I am really a novice. I am used to metric and now torned apart. I was thinking to stick to it and get a Metric dro and tools. i Have some good metric tools “micrometers and caliper”. What metric dial indicators go out here as being good quality.

All good DROs and electronic micrometers and calipers will switch between metric and standard. I prefer Mitutoyo, but that is just me. DO NOT buy Mitutoyo off of sites like eBay or even Amazon because there is a high probability of them being counterfeit.
I have bought items from this site. https://shop.idealprec.com/
They even have used/reconditioned that are very reasonable...https://shop.idealprec.com/products/mitutoyo-500-196-30-digimatic-caliper-0-6-0-150mm-range-0005-0-01mm-resolution-used-reconditioned?_pos=3&_sid=72500e339&_ss=r

I use Noga for indicator holders with the bottom fine adjustment. https://www.shars.com/noga-nf10433-...-mini-magnetic-base-w-fine-adjustment-at-base

I am sure others will chime in...

Oh, and welcome to the best hobby machinist site on the net.

I completely agree with Neil. Well mostly. :) I also work mostly in metric, and thus use Mitutoyo micrometers and calipers - these are your best investment, no question. And avoid eBay counterfeit versions abound. Watch this video - it will teach you not to take a risk:

I don't think I've ever seen a DRO that didn't let you switch between metric and imperial. I'm guessing they exist, but I think you'd have to hunt to find such a thing. That isn't true of non-electronic micrometers - they are specific to a single unit of measure.

WRT mag base indicator holders, I prefer the Noga MG10533 over the NF10433 Neil referenced because the arms are longer. Noga makes a LOT of different mag base products. Have a look at this link which sorts through some of the alternatives:

Yes, I agree 100%, if its cheep its not the real deal, that's my general rule, I by this stuff from a reputable tool company.

B2, I do not remember his name but that is his site name, has a PM940M-CNC and he can likely provide some good information, he had some issues with his machine so he would be a great guy to talk to. I have the PM940V-PDF and have enjoyed the experience. Precision Mathews has some reasonably good literature on your machine if you haven't already downloaded it, it isn't the same as the paperwork that comes with the machine.

Thanks a lot guys, I will get the good ones. @verbotenwhisky no I did not download the manual. Thanks a lot for the link will read it asap.

I am lucky I landed on this forum it’s amazing
