An old friend has parkinson's disease and can no longer do his work. He makes pipe testing tools,(pressure testing) and he has asked me to do the work for him. I will have to step up to a lathe that has a 2.5" spindle hole and swing at least 17". My Bridgeport is all that is needed to do the mill work. His mind is fine, it's his body just won't do what he wants to do. I'm suspecting I will inherit this work as he declines. He gets around in a wheel chair or his electric scooter so he can visit the shop and see what 's happening.

Its fortunate that you are in a position to help him (and his customers) out. Hope you have room for a big lathe....

That sounds like a good business good luck with your new venture.

Spend as much time as you can learning directly from your friend.

Not only will it help you get up to speed on typical jobs, process, customers, tools, etc.
It will give him a chance to stay connected and feel less sidelined.
That second one may turn out to be more important than the first one.

Good luck with the new job. Sounds like a great opportunity.

My dad had Parkinson's. Learn all you can as soon as you can. Parkinson's will progress to a dimentia similar to Alzheimer's.

Best wishes ... both to you and your friend!
