How was this done?

Hello, I´m a complete noobie, and just saw this piece and could not understand how it was machined. Was it cut vertically shaping the round part, and then horizontally for the Y shape???? How could it be held?

May have been machined from an extrusion of the profile, if from the solid then a load of fixtures.

My guess is, it is an investment casting or forging.

That is a complex part. Pretty sure it was done on a 4 axis machine. But what you don't see is the extra material on the ends that was used to hold the part while the outside profiles were cut. Once the holes were drilled and the outside profile was completed, then it would have been fixtured for the other operations. I think it was done in 3 setups, but I would have to spend more time thinking about it.
