Not a machinst by trade but..
I worked with a machinist for over 20 yrs. I am an R & D Tech and would bring him jobs. He was the grumpiest SOB on earth. But over the years I sure did learn a lot (and I would apply what I learned to my modest shop at home). Anyway – the entertainment for the day is when a new “engineer” or “technician” would bring a job into the shop – boy would they get an a$$ chewing – and he was right – the designs were crap – the prints were crap – the timeline was crazy (hell, even the material was wrong, they spec 316 SS when Delrin would work) but “they” were always right.
So he made the part – and right on schedule a week after he delivered the part they would be back – sheepishly – with the modifications he originally suggested.
He got fired – I miss that guy…
