How do you check a collet for wear?

Hey Guys,

I have been offered some used American collets as opposed to a new set of imports, but have been warned that the American ones are "well used".

So my question is this, how do I check a set of collets for wear? What am I looking for? What makes them acceptable as opposed to worn out?

Bellmouthing is due to spinning in the collet. That and the threads are the only areas that would show wear.
