Took my vise apart to clean tonight and thought since I have a surface plate now I'd throw it on there for curiosity's sake. I put the body on the plate and ran it along an indicator. Front to back both ways were about the same, ~ .0019" difference. From one way compared to the other (same spot) was about .001" difference. Then from outside to inside (twist) on each way was .0006" difference.
I was a little surprised.

surprised that you had 6 ten thousands twist? or that it was that you had almost 2 thou diff?
If it's a Kurt, I would be surprised that you had 2 thou diff on the ways. How did you check it?
How do you know your surface plate is accurate?

Yeah so I got to looking at my setup. Since I haven't a surface gage I had my dti set up on my noga which was attached to a piece of steel next to the plate. I realized it was a bad set up as the dti was on a different surface then the vise. At least that's how I see it. I put the noga on the surface plate and they are equal now, the vise I mean. So there is really is no difference between the two ways.
Forget everything I said in that first post.
