I am aligning my new HF 8x12 Lathe and I find the dead center method indicates the tail stock is high by .0005. Is there a method to align the tail stock horizontally. Would have been nice to have the same as they have for vertical adjustment ?

On my Taig lathe I raised the headstock with shim stock to resolve a similar issue. .0005" is tiny though, perhaps some cling film/Saran wrap type stuff will do?

If it's high, I would wait until I had a few miles on it. You said new, so I am thinking out of the box. Half a thousandth isn't much, and is better than being low. I allows for a little wear before you really need to shim it.

And are you sure the method used to evaluate it is showing you properly? If there is any "droop" in your indicator setup, it will show the tailstock as high. You didn't show the method, but if you are sweeping a DTI around the bore, or dead center, that is one consideration.

Thanks all - I'll verify and maybe let it settle in as it is brand new.
