Grinding Practice

These bushings are hardened steel of some kind and came with a lawnmower front wheel set to be used as spacers. They are now small parallels for any use I need them for. The height is arbitrary, but the tolerance (50 microinches) is how they compare in flatness, parallelism, and in height between each other. Really they are probably closer, but I have no way to measure to more than a tenth so it doesn't matter too much to me. YouTube video coming soon showing the grinding. They do wring together, but not by much (I think because of the criss cross grinding pattern) so I might try lapping the faces with a piece of scraped flat brass and lapping compound if I can find any in a fine enough grit.

I have had good luck with diamond lapping compound. McMaster sells them and the 5 gram syringe goes a long way. I have used the 0 -.5 micron For optical quality finish ion glass and stainless (McMaster no. 4776A51).
