Greenfield Tap & Die: Economic and Historical Analysis

Good read , I have a fair amount of old taps and dies from those named .

I have two sets of the collet type dies and taps, 1/4" to 3/4", coarse and fine; I do not use them very often, since I mostly chase threads in the lathe or use Geometric automatic dies for longer threads, also in the lathe; having said that, the collet type dies are handy for quick & dirty small jobs, especially since the chasers can be reversed in the holder so that one can thread right up to a shoulder if necessary.
I found the article quite interesting, in that the company was quite paternalistic and offered many social programs to its employees and decent wages, but was in turn "plagued with strikes" I shouldn't think that happy employees would feel the need to strike.

Fascinating history. Thanks. I still have quite a few GTD taps and dies in my stable.
