Today the drawbar and power db unit came in. We took a break from all the CNC bit and byte stuff to actually get dirty! Now that's good medicine!

My newbie lesson of the day, again is all about just going out and learning something new in this trade. First for everything. so I put in our first 30taper tool holder :) We sunk our newly arrived Drawbar from: http://highqualitytoolsinc.com/~h8200/ and they were great and fast! We bolted up the air-gun power drawbar. Played around and cut down a socket... Boom. Perfect. Whew. 1 out of 5 or 6 down now.

Hey- Quick Q. What are the square cuts in the 30taper holder and spindle for? (pics below) Almost looks like a place to bolt up something to stiffen? Guess?

This the way mine fits up, my keys are a bit different than yours.

Keys engaged, taper seated

keys and taper ??

Hmmm Well, on the Enco Tools holder I bought the 1/2-12 NMTB And on this spindle, there are two threaded holes in the open slots of the spindle.

That said, I guess I need some type of steel inserts to become key's ? They would go up into the SPindle notch and then sink into the Tool holder. Wow... that's how new I am somedays..... Not even sure how to chuck it up yet! We'll get there! Pics below. So do I buy them or make them? let alone asking what they are called.

On the closed loop stepper.... Will get engaged there ASAP as well. That would be a really cost effective setup for the Kid and I! Thanks again Jim D!

RESOLVED- Pull studs for Spindle needed.

So.... Newb google-mania and we have some answers! They are called Pull studs or even Retention knobs... But it seems those are more for CNC machines? Just to locate a square pull-stud seems non-existent in googlespeak. The AU gang is here overnight. Maybe someone can set me straight.... I think I shall repost this too under a better title.

Here are some great sites I used in this quest. -
