Finally had a moment to watch our Tool & Die Machinist setup and run the Cincinnati grinder. Here is a brief excerpt. He was beginning the training sequence of our other Tool & Die Machinist who had never setup and sharpened these tools. They are gear hobs we run on old Barber Coleman machines.


I really like the step wise approach these guys use to train others. Nothing is rushed, it all comes in due time. Being the production manager, I've a ton of respect for their profession and how they are so thorough. I wish professional trainers would take cues from these guys.

The setup on these is pretty clever. A spring loaded ratcheting stop upon which the back of the Hob teeth rest. This provides consistent and quick indexing by hand. The table moves back and forth by hand but can be automatic. The problem is automatic mode doesn't know when you have indexed all teeth, so manual it is.
