Hello folks,
Still looking for a manual or other info on a Frejoth 1340 lathe. Had to change one of the bearings in the headstock over the weekend. Lathe is much quieter now after the replacement.

Still looking? Is this the C0632 type made in the 90's with the dual lever gearbox or is it the newer C0632 with rotary knobs on the gearbox, which searching for C0632 tends to find various brands calling it a GHB-1340 or GH-1340. (Why can't these companies come up with a new model number when they drastically alter a lathe?)

I just got a Frejoth 1340, model C0632 of the 1990's style with lever gearbox. I'd like to get high resolution photos, taken straight on, of all the plates on the headstock. Someone used some kind of solvent on them which almost completely removed all the printing on them. I have some self adhesive, white plastic film that's laser printable. I want to re-create the graphics, using the photos as a template, then apply them to the plates.

I have an original manual, got it in a binder with the lathe. I also found a scanned copy of a manual here http://www.mie.uth.gr/files/tornos_manual.PDF Link said it's University of Thessaly, PDF is in English.

Yes I'm still looking. Thanks for the link. I just printed it. Mine has the levers. When I got my lathe, about a year ago, I tried to clean it also and the numbers on the plates started to disappear. I stopped before I caused any real damage. I did take pictures of the plates and also made drawings of the plates just in case all the numbers were lost. I can take some good pictures and also send copies of my drawings to you if that will help.

I was at a hardware and tool show in Las Vegas last year and found a booth for Frejoth. I asked them about parts and a manual. A representative from the factory in Taiwan sent me an email and said no manual or parts were available. Thanks again for the link to the manual.

I'd appreciate the pictures and drawings, thanks. The manual I got with the lathe was downloaded from JET and printed. Same GHB-1340 model number as used on a different lathe now so they don't have the manual for the 1990's version.

I found a high resolution image of a Frejoth catalog cover from which I can copy the name and logo for the charts. Good thing the current owners of the Frejoth name haven't changed the art.

Not a problem. Let me get photos in the morning and send the info your way. You don't have a parts breakdown on that lathe do you? The fellow I got this lathe from made some modifications and I'm not sure how it should be.

Aren't all the numbers you need in the info you sent me?

Should be, but I have nothing to use to re-create the original graphics. Nothing to measure etc. Since most of the brand-labled copies of this lathe use the exact same charts and other things like the graphics for the feed direction, I can use good photos of any of them then add in the Frejoth logo (color changed as needed).

I took this (image before attempting any cleaning) http://partsbyemc.com/pub/blackh-bad-25.jpg and made this http://partsbyemc.com/pub/Blackhawk.png

A couple of others I've done from rather poor images of originals. http://partsbyemc.com/pub/Montgomery_Ward_logo.png http://partsbyemc.com/pub/POWR-KRAFT-logo-sample.jpg

The machine tool graphics I really want to get good images of, with a ruler held up against for size, are the War Finish and Regal lables LeBlond put on their lathe headstocks during WW2. While the rest of the industry responded to War Production Board Order L-108 with plain and simple plaques riveted on, or added the notice in raised letters on the iron castings, LeBlond went a bit wild and garish with these decals. http://www.practicalmachinist.com/v...s-leblond-regal-13-war_finish_original-sm.jpg

To re-do that amount of detail I first have to have LARGE images. I plan to do it how I did the Blackhawk Indian head. After cleaning, I scanned it then printed it out larger than the scan. Next, I used a black ink pen to color in all the black, then scanned the print. The solid black made it easy to select in Photoshop and cut to a layer. The BLACKHAWK and Porto - Power text I did from scratch. If I was a bit crazier I'd create entire fonts based on those. For the rest of the text I found a digital font that had the perfect shapes but the weight, size, spacing etc had to be tweaked to make it match. The purpose of this? I have an old steel, briefcase sized, art deco style case for a 2-ton Porto - Power hydraulic jacking system. When I get a round tuit and restore it, I'll have the logo to put on it.

For the LeBlond decals I'll have to do that process for each color to create separations - essentially the same process that used to be done with a process camera. I took a graphic arts class in Jr. High in the 1980's where I got to use one. Didn't have things like Photoshop or CAD then, all hand drawing, drafting, rubylith, rub on lettering, actual clip art (with scissors) and camera film.

Good job. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you with pictures yet but have ban helping a friend who had flood issues here in Houston. Try and get some pics this weekend.
