Hi
So after reading for a week and asking multiple questions here and there I took the step to try cut the thread on the lathe well this was my second attempt but turned out pretty good, now to try on something that I can use

also a question where would I find a chart for size of the rod and depth of the thread for a specific thread I have many charts for taps (size of the hole) but not for threading especially on the lathe thanks in advance

I use the following

Thread depth.
To calculate the depth of thread:
compound rest slide depth = (1/Pitch) x Cos (30 degrees)0.866
So for ½-13
compound rest slide depth = (1/13) * .866 = .077 * .866 = .067”

I know there are other variations on this so others with with more experience will post other options. Do you have a picture of your tool grind and cross slide set up?

Looks good. It's fun, isn't it?

... Soon you'll wish you could afford a machine that had an automatic gearbox instead of change gears...
