If you don't mine I would like to ask you some questions about your lathe .I will do them 1 at a time .1 how loud is your lathe when it is in gear? Thanks

not loud at all . if you have to mach play or not enough it can be loud

In the owners manual it says to run the lathe up in the high range for one hour then tie a rope to the spindle nose hook up a hand scale and pull. it . It should read between 30 to 32 Lb . here is the guestion do I need to take the chuck off to do this or can I just tie the rope to the chuck . Thanks for helping me with this .

The spindle nose being much smaller than the chuck would be more difficult to turn. If the spindle nose should be 30-32, the mechanical advantage the chuck gives may be 10:1, and would lead you to over tighten the bearings.

Thanks Tony that is what I was thinking . I am right for once . Does this seem like a lot of pre load to you ?

It all checked out OK but I still think it is to LOUD. :-\
