Disassemble BOSS CNC Head

Below is a photo of a BOSS CNC head. I have jammed the quill and am unable to free it. I have tried reasonable force with no luck and am faced with disassembly. I have owned the mill for 6 years, it came with the top half of the head missing, I was able to find the parts and after several passes at the target put it together, I would like to avoid a full disassembly, the head is fussy.
The parts in the top, 'do not oil' and above are basically standard. The parts below the motor mount casting are also standard. However the quill motor mount casting and the thin plate between it and the 'do not oil' part are unique to BOSS mills.
My question is: If I rotate the head 90 degrees and build a supporting cradle on the mill bed can I separate the upper porting in tact from the quill motor mount portion. I would remove the 3 bolts connecting the quill motor mount and the adaptor plate and separate the motor drive from the spindle.
If memory serves at that point the only parts are the case and the spindle. There is nothing preventing the head, motor, and drive assembly from sliding up the spindle.
Any comments or experience would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Dan
PS: I do not have a parts manual for this specific head.

With some help you should be able to lower the knee, invert the head and use the knee to support the motor drive section, remove the bolts and hopefully lower the knee and motor away from the head.
Sounds like the quill got jammed at the end of travel.

Thank you. Yes, the quill is jammed.
That is probably a better option. I will chek how much travel I have in the knee. I don't think the top has to come all the way off, but I will need enough space to reach the quill mechanism.

I rotated the head 90 degrees and raised the bed. I then shimmed up the head, removed 3 bolts, and using the x axis slid the head off. (It wasn't quite that easy, the spindle splines did bind just a bit. However it did come with just a bit of force. )
The angle bracket holds the motor and the head in position against the bed. All in all it worked very smoothly.

Well, I have the head removed from the top. This is the view of the spindle mechanism. Does anyone know if the quill can be freed from here or do I need to remove the motor casting? When I re-assembled the head I got the far, but I did not remove the quill. I suspect removing the retaining ring should be the next step.
(I don't know anything about the rust, the mill itself is not rusty. Water may have gotten in here at some point. )

I don't what happened to the response. I did a tap tap tap on the outer retaining ring and that loosened the quill. Reassemble was straight forward with just a little care. It is now back together and operational. If someone ever needs to disasemble one of these heads this is very straight forward.

Glad to hear it went well. I haven't been around much as I have been dealing with a transmission issue on my primary vehicle
