I picked ups Deckel SO cutter grinder this past weekend. It was a bit rusty so I took it apart enough to wire brush the rust off. I was also able to clean all moving parts. Anyhow the only issue I have is it is missing the vernier scale.
I made up a brass placard today at work. I failed to take pictures. Anyhow it is the standard .005 graduation.
Now the input I need. I need to know a good method of getting everything aligned at 0 so I can bond the vernier into position.
All I have come up with is to set all angles to 0. No relief angle. Then clamp up a 1/2” tooling ball. Then slowly dial into the wheel and use a shim to make contact. Then rotate 90 degree and dial the ball forward until I make contact on the shim. Then start rotating from parallel to perpendicular and slowly adjust until I have even contact on the ball through the 90 degrees of travel.
Lock everything and re verify. Then bond the vernier to align to 0.
Am I all wet on this thought?
I am sure there might be a better way suggestions!
Cutting oil is my blood.
