I only needed to free shape cut a few pieces of mild steel a week. Standing in my garage was my old wood saw. I had fit it with quality metal blades.
The original induction motor runs at a fixed 1,700 RPM and it destroys metal blades because it only runs at 1,700 feet per minuet.
So I decided to pull one of the 2hp servo motors off the shelf and fit it to the saw. It only took about 4 hours with the base version motor.
When finished the the blade speed is variable between 200 feet per minuet and 2,600 FPM. Now it will cut steel and aluminum as thick as 8".
It's not too hard and most here can perform this project with the base motor. Optionally I can build a direct bolt on kit to fit this and other band saws.
