My wife has tasked me with what I want for Christmas. Life has it's challenges at times. Oh well. I'm wanting a pendant and have searched and read as much as I could find on this forum but haven't been able to reach a conclusion. Any recommendations? Same with a touch Probe. I'd like to have one that measures in all three axis and doubles as a tool setter. Again, I've read a lot but need end user feedback on the device and software.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Tom,
I have 4 of these and I have been happy with them, you can't beat the price
they are coolant resistant and hold up pretty well
every once in a while I have to unplug and plug it back in on my zx45 but it always resets

For a touch probe, as long as it's Christmas, consider an active probe rather than passive. They cost more but are more sensitive. I don't recall seeing one with tool setting capability though.

Thanks Steve. Your opinion means a lot.

Can you point me to a passive and active type Probe so I can read up on the differences?

Thanks,

Tormach sells both but as I recall they don't go into the technical description very deeply. http://www.tormach.com/product_tts_electronics.html
Here is a site that explains the difference.

If you search the internet for touch probe or digitizing probe, you will find a number of different probes for sale as well as articles regarding DIY probes.

Thanks for the links. I have some reading to do.

Did some reading on the differences between active and passive probes. I now have a better understanding of the operating characteristics. Still need to wade through the different manufacturers/vendors and their pricing to find one that meets my very basic needs.

For info I'm wanting to create a 3D CAD drawing using a probe rather than creating the drawing from scratch. I'm reading up on the probe data to CAD conversion software and it looks like it will work.

Thanks to everyone for your input.

I use a xbox 360 pc controller for my pendant. Proportional control on each axis and all the buttons are configurable. Plugin for Mach3 on their website.

Thanks Jay. I'll check it out.
