i've got a vise that I think was made in China. No markings. should just throw it in the scrap bin- but I like a challenge.
The nut the screw screws into is broke. My acme thread pitch guage puts in between 6 and 7. My question is did they use a metric screw thread?
Thanks ron

probably...but so what? If the nut's broke, you need to cut a new one. Use something like a 10, and go from there.

The stroke adjustment female threads for the scotch yoke on my 16inch shaper was stripped.
Milled a pocket dropped an acme nut in, and turned a new acme thread.
That was a while ago.
If there is enough material, then there are several ways to do this.
Either tap or pocket.
Possibly other options....

Well to gl ,I don't want to make a new screw.and Darrel ,I can't figure out what thread it is to buy a nut.
I suppose if I want to I could cut a new screw and matching nut. What's everybody think about using a piece of axle for making a screw?
Thanks ron

Tubalcain has an interesting video on repairing a Palmgren DP vise, there may be others; YouTube.
