Finally got fed up with this indicator stand, the pot metal double ball arrangement worked fine but wasn't too secure, the pieces kept unscrewing, and the fine adjustment got in the way and didnt really work. I tapped the base out from M5 or M6 to 1/4-20, and turned threads on the end of a 5/16" rod from printer feed rollers to use as the mast. That stuff turns nice! Somewhat hard and durable steel.
The indicator snug from my Starrett surface gauge will eventually be replaced with a homemade one with dovetails so I don't have to use those clamp pins on the indicator dovetails. I might cut those dovetails on the shaper.
