Bendng 1/4" brass sheet?

Unlike steel, brass is annealed by the heating process not the cooling process. You can water quench it or let it air cool, the results will be the same. Cartridge brass is often set in a shallow pan of water to keep the bases from heating up as the necks are annealed, then they are just tipped over to cool.

Brass doesn't have to be quenched,as said. A further good point in letting it air cool is that brass can crack or sometimes distort when quenched. The safest route is air cooling. I have had brass crack few times many years ago when I thought it had to be quenched. Doesn't always crack, but brass is way too expensive these days to take risks that can be avoided.

That's what I needed to know. Thanks guys. I have always annealed my cartridges by tipping them over in water.
