[How do I?] Atlas 7b Shaper restoration, brass?

I’m restoring my Atlas 7b Shaper and my engagement handle is made from brass or bronze. Is this normal? Also, some of my castings have a “copper tone” to them. They are magnetic though. Should I just polish it or paint it?
