Way back in '06, I bought the house in the mountains. It needed a lot of work, bathrooms remodeled, new flooring, etc. I put the word out and the stuff came pouring in. Enough marble tile to do both bathrooms, engineered wood flooring to do the living room, 1/4" steel plate sheared to size for the woodstove hearth, furniture, TVs, etc.
Fast forward to 2018, while casually (and without intent) looking at lathes on CL, I found a ridiculously large one for free in the east bay. As a joke, I sent the link to a friend in Modesto, asking if he could pick it up for me. Less than a week later, I got a call from Fred asking if I wanted a lathe and a mill (and Kalamazoo saw, 7.5 hp RPC and a small shop's worth of tooling and material). All I had to do was haul it away.
My point? On Friday, in response to @klandrith reporting that he had purchased a surface grinder in the Sacramento area that I had posted here, I stated that I was looking for one closer to Redding. This ad appeared Tuesday.
I bought it today.
Variable magnetic chuck, HSS ways (!), roller base and a spindex in the cabinet.
If you want something, let the universe know. It seems that it helps to put it in writing and transmit it electronically.
Having said that, I sure could use a 10" rotary table in the Redding area, and under $300.
