Anyone ever use these ?

The Hot-Stapler was the bomb 10-15 years ago in the autobody industry for repairing torn bumper covers. We later found what worked even better was to press stainless mesh into the plastic using a 'foot' attachment grafted onto the end of a normal soldering iron or pencil. Result was a much more robust joint. We used these from Polyvance (no affiliation). Worked especially well with Polypropylene (PP) parts, but also effective with other thermoplastics.

edit: we also tried using generic aluminum screen to a poor effect. Alum is no bueno. Steel may be fine too - it becomes entombed in the plastic, so no exposure to air or humidity to cause corrosive effects, I would presume?
