Anybody sharpen their own endmills?

I do my own milling cutters, drills and such with the Monosets and I have a Cincy #2 mainly for the bigger Niagra style cutters. I have the air cylinders to do endmills, just need the time to try it out and get it up and running. I'll try to attach a pic of my grinding room. Excuse the mess, just moved in over the summer and still getting setup.

At one time I did sharpen all my milling cutters
There was a draw back to this it change the size by 0.001 or even more.
I also work at machine shop I spent 2 weeks sharpening are mill cutters in shopping carts. They work great but ever did not want because of the size change.

I never find the size change a problem as most of the time I am just cutting a edge or surface and taking a fixed amount off. When cutting a slot , I just take an extra pass to get to size.

I built a Brooks cutter grinder which is the non-casting version of a Stent. Much as the Bonelle is a non-casting version of the Quorn. I considered the Bonelle but thought the Brooks would be simpler to build and use. It isn't a trivial item to build; line boring the center slide was challenging and some parts of the work head needed a lathe larger than the 7x12 so purchasing and refurbishing a Rockwell 10" extended the Brooks project considerably for me. Build info: http://www.gadgetbuilder.com/Brooks_Grinder.html

The Brooks work head allows sharpening the teeth on end mills but the flutes needed an additional attachment, as did slitting saws, see: http://www.gadgetbuilder.com/Brooks_Grinder.html#End_Mill_Sharpening In general, the attachments for different types of cutters are straightforward to build for the Brooks.

However, drill sharpening on the Brooks, while possible, is slow. I built a separate drill sharpener ( http://www.gadgetbuilder.com/DrillSharp.html#Facet4 ) to speed the process because drills (1/2" and under) are the most common cutter I need to sharpen. The Brooks is used for drills larger than 1/2" which I sharpen less frequently.

I just can't wrap my head around the brooks. I think it is the line boring and keeping them parallel, so I have settled on the Bonnelle , which has its own challenges also. I got to start it soon.

John, You would not believe the nice comments I get on the drill sharpener from the local guys. I am so glad I found it and built it. I use it often.

The lathe and tool post grinder will also work as tool grinder.

Dave

That is the Harold Hall end mill sharpener. I have the plans for it somewhere on my computer. It seemed relatively simple, I don't know how well it works though and I want to be able to grind the flutes also, so I didn't purse building it. Maybe I should until I build something better.

Would you have a picture of the setup? I have these 2 tools and would be curious if I can sharpen my own dulls endmills TIA.
