5C ?

I found this in a box of 5C collets. Not sure what it's for. Maybe just a stop for repeat operations? It doesn't fit in all of the 5C collets I have.

It looks like a stop for 5C collets that don't have the internal threads.

I have used one years ago. It is a 5c collet stop. Many years ago I used 5c collets that had no inside threads. That’s telling you how old I am.

How? Collets are still available NEW today either with or without internal threads.

I have not seen a new 5c collet without Id threads in years. Have you ?

Hardinge still makes 5C collets without internal threads. From Hardinge's #2348 catalog, "Round 5C collets above 63⁄64", hex collets 55⁄64" and above, square 5C collets 23⁄32" and over, 5C number collets and letter collets do not have internal threads."
