Anyone ever seen, used, or heard of this 1981 WT TD-4A 10x24? WT is basically Tida from what I gather but went belly up in the late 80's? still trying to find info on this and if it has any usefulness as I am looking for a "small" mid size. 1 3/8" spindle which is the primary reason I want it other than it being for sale locally...Manual or at least one like it... http://www.wttool.com/common/manuals/Td4A-5A_op-manual.pdf

What should I be looking for other than wear/backlash issues? anything that was "known" to be an issue? Taiwanese lathes are usually pretty good to go!

But assuming it's a clone what parts would match up? JET looks similar but are outside of my realm!

If I can get in touch with the seller what is a decent price assuming everything is in order? Comes with some tooling, jaws, and a 3 jaw also.

The lathe has to be in it's prime just like me ;) it was build the same year! haha

Thanks in advance!

With Asian lathes, even if the lathes look exactly identical except for the badges, you can never trust that parts off other machines will fit. The parts might look identical at arm's length, but may not be able to be made to work on your lathe. Assume that no parts are available when contemplating purchasing a used Asian lathe. You may have to make or repair parts to get it working properly. That is the case regardless of brand, Jet, Enco, Grizzly all become orphans pretty quickly when new models come out. Along with that, lead times and prices can be a problem even if parts are still theoretically available. Sometimes if you order the original part number in your manual from the original manufacturer you will still get a wrong part and will probably be stuck with it. Take all that into consideration when buying any used lathe, and make sure everything is working correctly or know that you can fix it yourself.

Edit: Welcome to Hobby Machinist!

there were a lot of those lathes made under different badge names, even though they were all made very similar or in the very same factories.
they are very capable and fun machines to operate
you are in luck the spindle on the 10x24 is 50 mm OD at the spindle
an area to consider is the apron handwheel gear, it is made of bronze.
if the lathe was operated poorly lubricated the bronze gear will be one of the first things to suffer.
take a dial indicator with you when you go to talk price to the seller, sweep the ways - start deducting $ for wear if it exists.
parts will be like hens teeth, but if you have a lathe, the will, and desire- you can make parts or modify parts to your liking
i wish you the best of luck!

Thanks... I am checking it out this weekend and will bring the usually tools to do a sweep over. Can't find much on what they are worth dollar wise 5-800?

if you can get it in that price range, i'd say you are doing pretty good.
i got my shenwai 1236 for $600
if the WT 1024 has tooling or other chucks that's a plus!

Well I am pulling the trigger! Went to look it over last night... a bit of backlash on the cross-slide dial but nothing that I haven't dealt with in the past, everything else was tight and the best part was seeing that it has sat for so long and was still covered in plenty of oil! Ran great with no rattles, comes with both chucks 3 and independent 4 jaw, drawers and drawers full of tooling, even all the original manuals and books! Most tooling still in the original boxes and new. Cant wait to get it home and cleaned up :) in the end $750 was the tag I paid (considering it's the only 1.375 bore I have seen come up for sale in my are for over a year I would have paid more)

Anyone know what size QC toolpost I need? BXA is not right like it stated in another topic for the same lathe...

Well I have a full BXA setup that was laying around so I will be making an adapter bolt/sleeve to adopt the BXA post to the compound. Got everything torn down, cleaned, and oiled looks great for the age no damage to any gears, bedway, or slides! Was going to paint but decided I liked the worn look :) Now just need to start setting it up for my needs.
