Ideally would like an original Monarch one for my lathe, but I will entertain other brands if I can adapt it to work on my 16x54.

but I am resigned to building one at some point.
Same here. I Already bought some roller lifters and have some thick steel. Just hoping to get lucky and find one before I start.

Well, you and I both know when one will finally turn up. ;)

A few years ago I came across one. The seller was asking more for the steady rest than what I paid for my lathe. What is your budget?

Here's one I fabricated from a piece of thick walled pipe for my 14C. I have no idea what the
original is supposed to look like. I have seen one made from an old ring gear too which didn't require
bugeting. It was ingenuity at it's best. It wasn't beautiful but certainly functional.

I want one a little heavier than that if I build one. Here's a page from the sales literature that shows an original

The rest in that pic is a beast. Adam Booth does some lathe work on his Monarch in his latest video. There are some good up close video of his rest in it.
