to polish. I made a head for a hammer I'm making. I squared it up in the mill and although the finish is nice and smooth there are face mill marks everywhere.

Start with emery cloth and work your way finer. When you get to the 2000 grit it should shine.

Or if you have a deburring wheel on a pedestal grinder, you can polish it with that also.

I have used a single cut mill file to get a nice finish. Not filing in a typical fashion, but by holding it side ways and drawing it back and forth. Works well on small parts to get rid of machine marks and also makes a nice flat surface.

12L14 als0 rusts really, really fast! Once you get it polished you will need to protect it with something to keep moisture out.
