I’m fitting a QCTP to my 12x36 2hp lathe and I need to make a new stud. The new stud is 16mm with 2.0 thread one end and 1.5 the other ( 5/8” 11 tpi and 18tpi)
Is 1214 okay for this job?

yes,
12L14 will work, but you won't be able to harden the screw by heating and quenching

Sure, I think so. I machined my Aloris stud and it cut like 12L14 or maybe 1215. When I made a new stud for my Dorian, I used 1144 - even better. These things do not take a lot of torque so about any steel will do.

Thanks guys. It's always easier to get a job done when you have the materials on hand !

Perfect for it. There's not much stress to the stud. and with a 16mm stud, it's beefy. It should easily handle that.
Some #s for 12L14.. https://www.azom.com/article.aspx?ArticleID=6604
