1127 gearbox question

I was leaning towards just moving the chuck by hand with the power off. Seems like the safest way to handle it.

I've done this on every lathe I have owned. Including the 1340GT I currently own. No way I'd shift gears while things are still spinning, but that's just me.

Shifting gears is done with the motor off always. Yikes, don't grind them till you find them!

Even turning the chuck by hand does not always get me a good shift, I sometimes rock the chuck and move the gear shifter at the same time when switching ranges.

I have a jog button on my new lathe, I spin up with the button and if it doesn't sound right I let off quickly and wiggle the levers again while rotating by hand. If it spins up with no binding I just reach over to the lever and get to work. I don't know if that's the pro way, but I don't like grinding or binding up gears.
