I have an old Atlas F series lathe. Runs great. It is the old series that you manually change gears to cut various threads. The lead screw feeds based on the gear selection you have set up.
So, I have it set up for cutting the finest thread on their chart, thinking the should give me the slowest lead screw feed.
I am not cutting threads, just machining steel stock.
My problem is when I take a cut, the lead screw feeds fast enough my cut isn't very smooth, it looks like a thread.
Any ideas what to check/do to get a smoother cut? I currently don't use the auto feed because of this, I just feed by hand to get a smooth cut.
Don't remember having this problem in shop class 40 years ago (ha ha)...

Think I found my own answer, just down loader the "Threading Supplement" for Atlas 10" Lathes. It has gear setup for every thread as well as for "feed per revolution".
I should be able to set up feed for whatever I need.
